Bark Lake (Lac des Ecorces) is arguably the finest example of environmental achievement for a large lake in the whole
of the Laurentians. We drink the water, and large Lake Trout thrive in its 180 foot depths. Motor boat size and speed are
subject to reasonable limits, and there are no personal watercraft or ATVs.
The Ville de Barkmere although among the
smallest in Quebec, was established in 1926 under the Cities and Towns Act. Working with the BLPA residents organization,
the town has been highly successful for more than eighty years in preventing development excesses. Bark Lake is 10 km long
and has 33 km of shoreline. Yet there are only 180 cottages, or one every 600 feet on average. Only 40 of these are on a road.
WINDING
DOWN is at the very end of Duncan Road East with a neighbour on only one side. This, the only road into the mid portion
of the lake. Our oversize driveway and parking area serve as a turnaround for the town plow, sander and fire fighting vehicles.
Excellent service is the result and all wheel drive is unnecessary. Winter plowing and sanding are included.
This is
a full four season house with pressure lake water. Insulation ranges from R20 to R36. 200 amp service provides baseboard heating,
and there is oil heat as well from a 400 gal supply. There is telephone and satellite TV service. The house sleeps 7 in 3
queens (including sofa bed) and a single.
There are 200 feet of waterfront with a max depth back of 280 feet. Main
boat traffic is more than 1/2 km away. There is a 2 level fixed dock with 2 floating docks which attach, and provide room
for an 18 foot boat plus smaller ones. The sun sets straight ahead in summer and the views from the docks, the covered porch
and the bay window are spectacular.
By car Mont Tremblant is 35 min, St Sauveur 45 min, Montréal 80 min, Ottawa 2
hours, and Toronto 6 hours.
